Director Fire & Emergency Services declares open Fire Service Week
Preserve sanctity, spirit of noble cause 'We Serve to Save': Alok Kumar
*Highlights ethos of Apr 14; bats to constitute special teams for demos
JAMMU, Apr 14: Preserve sanctity and spirit of the slogan rather a noble cause 'We Serve to Save' and spread awareness regarding fire prevention and precautionary measures among masses.
This appeal was made by Sh Alok Kumar, Director Fire & Emergency Services J&K to his departmental officers/officials and the general public as well while declaring open Fire Service Week in an impressive, colourful and well attended function at Fire & Emergency Headquarters, Gandhi Nagar, here today.
The day (14th April) is being observed in the UT of J&K to commemorate those gallant firemen who laid their lives for safeguarding life and property of masses during rescue and fire-fighting.
The main Commemoration Parade was held at Gandhi Nagar Jammu, while at provincial and district levels, wreaths were laid in the memory of martyrs at the Martyrs' Memorial.
Alok Kumar was the Chief Guest, who was accompanied by RK Raina, Deputy Director Fire & Emergency Services, Command Jammu: Dr Anita Salgotra, Medical Officer Jammu; Ajaz Ahmad Haji, Administrative Officer Fire & Emergency Services J&K and other senior officers and Jawans of the Department.
Sh Alok Kumar paid homage to the firemen who laid down their lives for noble cause “We Serve to Save” and highlighted the ethos of April 14. While emphasizing the role of Fire & Emergency Services, Alok Kumar threw light on the devastation caused due to fires and natural calamity.
He emphasized upon the departmental officers to constitute special teams for giving demonstrations during the week regarding fire safety measures at District level in Industrial establishments, educational institutions, Hospitals and other institutions besides conducting essay competitions of students and debates on this year’s slogan-- To Prevent Fire: “Awareness in Fire Safety for Growth of National Infrastructure Agni” at Range/ District Headquarters.
He also applauded the role of Firemen who did a commendable job during recent fire fighting and rescue operations in J&K.
Earlier, Director Fire & Emergency Services J&K released a video presentation theme song, posters, banners with regard to Fire Services and declared the Fire Service Week open which is being observed from 14th to 20th April 2023.
He also issued instructions for organising sports events, free medical check-up for general public, evacuation drills, essay competitions, fire audits, besides cultural events and stressed upon maintenance of fire machinery and equipments.
Similar functions were held at Range Headquarters Batmaloo Srinagar besides at Command levels.
Fire Service Week is observed throughout the country every year from 14th April to 20th April.
